Choosing Whites and Neutrals for Elegant Newborn Studio Portraits

I am known for my love of color and busy patterns... the brighter and more mismatched, the better. I just love color! It makes me happy and my home feel warm, inviting, and fun.  So, when I was trying to brand my newborn studio sessions, it was surprising to me that I kept gravitating towards clean and neutral backgrounds.

Clean Look for Classic Mom and Baby Portraits

Because my goal is to focus on the simple beauty of the newborn baby, as well as the love between family and child, it just makes sense to utilize a neutral color palette.  These colors utilized for the background of the newborn sessions' all me to place an emphasis on that beautiful simplicity of those first few moments with baby. 

New Moms are beautiful

Even though there is nothing quite as beautiful as a new mother, my clients often tell me that they do not want to be in any photos with their babies because they don't feel as though they look their best.  I understand their trepidation and even felt it myself, but I can't stress to parents enough how important it is to leave a visual legacy of those first few moments with baby. The studio color scheme and lighting is designed to enhance that gorgeous maternal glow that every new mom seems to radiate.   A recent client said to me after taking her pictures, "I love the one of Stella & I, I was feeling so gross too that morning."   Even the most hesitant of clients are ultimately happy that they opted for family pictures.
