Stress Free Family Sessions with Toddlers | Capture Authentic Emotion and Connection
Now that the busy Fall season has come and gone, I can finally catch up on my blogging. I photographed so many beautiful children and families this season and had so much fun getting to know the families and photographing them. I also wanted to finally share a few photos from a few recent Fall family sessions and provide some insight into family photography for those who are considering booking Spring or Summer family lifestyle portraits.
What is a Family Session?
When clients wth toddlers contact me about booking Fall or holiday photos, I always encourage them to book a family session instead of a children's mini session. I am not doing this to up sell clients, but because this is the most authentic way to capture images of your children. My family sessions include a few traditional posed images, but the majority of the photos will be images of you interacting with your children and loving them. These are going to be images that capture the natural dynamic and emotion of your family at this moment in time. So, maybe there will be an image of the way your three year old daughter holds your hand, how your 18 month cuddles into the crook of your neck, your son's big toothy smile, or the way your husband plays airplane with the kids; these images will cause you to sigh when you look at them a few years from now and realize how much your family has grown over the years. The images can instantly bring back all of those beautiful emotions for you.
Toddlers and Family Photos
These sessions are perfect for toddler aged children, who simply can't, and should not, sit still for images. You will still get gorgeous portraits of your children for holiday cards and to gift to family members, but your children will have natural and relaxed expressions on their faces. Many parents often are hesitant to book family photos because they feel their children will not cooperate. I get it. I also feel that same trepidation on my way to getting my own annual family photos taken, nut I know that my approach to family photography is designed to be stress free. As a photographer with 15 years of teaching experience, I know how to keep things light hearted and fun during a session to keep the kids engaged. In fact, at the end of the session, most of my clients comment how much fun they had and how smoothly the session went.
Booking a Family Session
I only book two family sessions per month. This s because I try to get to know my families prior to the session and allows me to dedicate the proper amount of time to hand editing and curating your gallery of images. I am available every step of the way to answer any questions you have about the session. I help you plan and coordinate your wardrobe and give you tips to prepping your child. I recognize that family photography is an investment and I want you to have the images of your family that you are dreaming of. I keep everything simple and easy for my clients. I am a working mom too, so I know how chaotic and stressful life is; booking a photo session should not add to that stress.
