Star Themed First Birthday Session | Massapequa Cake Smash Photographer

I absolutely love when I get the opportunity to photograph my previous newborn clients for first birthday sessions. It truly is such an honor to be able to document these milestone moments for my families and I feel blessed to also be able to watch their children grow. When my client contacted me about first birthday photos for her little one, I was shocked. I really could not believe that a year had already gone by since I photographed Miss S and her family for newborn photos in the studio. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly time goes by.

Mom was just in time because I recently completed some new additions to my studio, including a new backdrop system that allows me to switch out sets quickly and make use of the studio space in the best way possible. One of the additions to the system is a handmade bright white brick wall backdrop. I love this set because it is both modern, yet timeless and it allows me the opportunity to capture those bright and airy images I love.

Mom wanted a star themed birthday set for Miss Stella’s session and I happily obliged that request. I had a vision for her first birthday photos that involved lots of metallic hanging stars and I wanted to create a set that was understated, yet beautiful. My goal is always to have the focus of my images remain on the child and having a minimalist set allows me to do so. It took a couple of trips to Hobby Lobby and other craft stores to find exactly what I was looking for, but it was utlimately all worth it.

Mom dressed Miss S in the absolute most adorable pink sequined romper for her first birthday portraits. I love how the color pops against the white and the texture of the sequins adds such great dimension to the images. We snapped pictures on the first set and then mom changed Miss S into an equally adorable outfit for the cake smash portion of the session that included a lavender tutu, personalized onesie and aqua colored sequin bow. Miss S was giddy as can be during this part of the session and laughed, clapped and smiled while she feasted on her gorgeous ombre colored cake. I can’t say that I blame her, the cake looked absolutely delectable.
