For those of you with little girls, I am sure you are well versed in all things princess. Most of the time, this includes dressing in full princess attire on a daily basis, which often includes being over dressed for most occasions. I, for one, love the innocence of this season of life and I have throughly documented it with my own two daughters and I love when clients ask me to document it for them too.

I have photographed this beautiful little girl before for holiday photos, so when her mom contacted me to book a third birthday session, I document this special milestone for her and her family. Mom told me that she currently is obsessed with princesses, in particular, Elsa. Her third birthday was the perfect opportunity to capture this chapter in Miss A’s life, so we went with a Frozen themed session.

Whenever the weather permits, I schedule my portrait sessions at outdoor locations. I find children are most at ease outdoors and it allows me to capture their personalities in a more authentic manner. I also prefer the natural beauty of outdoor locations. So, we scheduled her birthday photos at a favorite park of mine on a cloudy Monday morning.

You don’t need tons of props to capture a child’s love of Disney. In fact, we used minimal props for this session. Mom dressed Miss A in a beautiful Elsa inspired dress. I love her choice in wardrobe because the dress provide a nod to Elsa, but doesn’t appear to be a costume. Those are the type of dresses that work best for this type of session. Mom found hers on Amazon and Trish Scully is another good choice to find dresses for princess the photoshoots.

I did bring along a few of my daughters princess dresses to use as a backdrop for one photo to show Miss A’s love of princesses in general. I love the vibrant colors that the dresses bring to the images. I also added a little magic to her images because Miss A kept using her magical powers on me throughout the session so I wanted to enhance and showcase the vivid imagination of a child for those images.

I just love this collection of images and I know that years from now when Miss A is long past the princess phase in life, mom will cherish having images that capture her daughter in this way.
