A Family Session in a Magnificent Backyard | Brookville Family Photographer
Although I love to shoot at sunset, this is not the only time of day a family session can be scheduled. I know we all love that golden glow of sunset, but your images are not about capturing the scenery, they are meant to capture you and your love for one another. For many families, this is a welcome relief, especially those with toddler aged children, whose bedtime often coincides with sunset.
When I schedule a morning session, I try to do so between 9 and 10 am. In the Summer this is helpful because it is cooler in the morning and also the light of the sun is not as high at this time of day. I also have very specific locations at which I schedule these sessions. These locations provide some open shade to filter the sun. While I always try to accommodate a client’s request for a location, some locations do not work for a morning session, while others do. My goal is to choose a place that provides beautiful light and one that provides visual interest for your images.
This recent client contacted me to schedule a family session. She and her husband are both health care workers and were unable to schedule a newborn session for their 11 month old because of COVID. When discussing locations, she asked if we could schedule her portrait session in her aunt’s yard. She sent me photos of the yard to see if I thought the location would work. Once she sent over the photos of her aunt’s magnificent yard, I knew that we could capture some beautiful moments there. I am so glad we did because I just love everything about this session.
Although we scheduled the session at 10am, it was on a morning during a heat wave and it was a very humid and hot 83 degree day. You can not even tell from the images because this family is absolutely gorgeous. We started with some images of the sisters along a floral lined brick path. The girls were dressed in classic white sundresses from Hope & Henry. I always tell my clients that you can never go wrong with a white dress. They photograph beautifully and are timeless.
After I captured some sweet images of the sisters, we spent some time capturing a few family photos. I always try to capture a balance of posed images along with more interactive and fun captures. My client told me she wanted images that capture how fun this stage is with her children, so I made sure to include those.
Although the entire family is stunning, big sister stole the show that day with her beautiful big blue eyes. I just love the images of her in the garden in which she is laughing and smiling. I try to capture some detail shots of your children, including their eyes, eyelashes and ringlets. While these may not be the images you hang on your walls, these are the things you will want to remember when they are older and these captures look beautiful in an heirloom photo album.
I just love everything about this session, but here are a few of my favorites from the day. If you are interested in scheduling a session, contact me.
