Family Beach Photo Sessions with a Six Month Old

I adore the six month milestone. Babies have so much personality at this phase and it is such a great time to capture a family’s bond. Some families come back to me after their newborn session to schedule a six month old family session and others schedule this session in lieu of a newborn session.

This session was scheduled on a windy evening in early September. Although I primarily schedule my beach sunset sessions on the south shore of Long Island, I always love venturing to the North Shore for beach sessions. The beaches have such a different vibe to them and I love the aesthetic they provide for photographs. To me, the beaches in the Oyster Bay area have a true New England feel to them that really represents Long Island.

Other details I love about the beaches in this area are the rocky nature of the shore. It adds so much texture to the images. I also love that the water is calm enough for families to get right in and splash around in the water. The boats in the distance are the perfect finishing touch to really add charm and distinguish the unique charm of the area.

It was super windy the night of this session and even though it was the first week of September, it was unusually chilly. Because the beaches tend to have darker elements than the stark white beaches of the south shore, we originally opted for a very light and summery palette for the session. Because the weather shifted, we switched gears and I love the wardrobe my client put together.

This particular session is one of my favorites from the season. The family is super sweet and the baby boy is BEYOND adorable. I am so excited to see them again in a few weeks for his first birthday in my studio for a cake smash. I will be sure to post those images, but in the meantime, here are a few favorites from their September session on the beach.

If you are interested in a beach session, now is the time to book one for the Summer. Contact me for more info.
