Why You Should Schedule a Couples Maternity Session

Many women skip the maternity session and go straight for the newborn photos instead. This is a big mistake for a multitude of reasons, especially if it is your first child. First of all, pregnant women are absolutely gorgeous. Also, although it may not feel like it at the time, this phase passes way too quickly. You will want to remember these days when they are long gone.

The other common misconception is that a maternity session should just be solo portraits of the woman. This could not be further from the truth. A maternity session is a chapter in your love story with your partner. It is a milestone that should be documented as it shows the evolution, maturation and deepening of your connection and commitment to one another. If this is your first child, the dynamic of your relationship is about to change in so many ways, so it is a perfect opportunity to capture you as a couple before you become a family of three.

I promise you, I will make the whole experience easy for you. I will choose a location, style you both, lend you dresses from my client closet and when the day of the session arrives, you will just feel like you are on a romantic date with your partner. I want your photo session to be a special experience because becoming parents is special.

This recent session makes me feel like I am watching a romantic love story unfold. The couple is not only breathtakingly gorgeous, but they are so cute together and so in love. I love to capture moments between a couple that are intimate and show that love and connection. I want my clients to have a gallery of images that when they look at them in ten years can make them feel all of those emotions they were feeling in that moment and remind them of how much they love one another.

My client is wearing one of my favorite Free People dresses from my client closet. This color is the absolute perfect shade of teal and is stunning on her. I love it paired with the camel pants and white linen shirt. The whole ensemble is boho, beachy and romantic. I alos love that my client was bold enough to go for the second outfit in the session, which was white linen pants and a bralette. I love pair belly maternity images when they are done in such a natural and casual way like this. I told them while we were shooting this segment of the session that I wanted their images to have a Sandy and Danny Zuko vibe from the opening scene in Grease. Thank fully, my clients understood the assignment and just went with it. The images are so fun!

I can’t wait to work with this couple in a few weeks when photograph them with their baby girl for an in home newborn session. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorites from the day.
