As a dog owner, I understand how important it is to have your fur baby participate in your newborn photos. While my studio isn’t conducive to sessions with pets, an in home newborn session is perfect for those families who want to make sure that their pet is included. You, your children and your pet can be photographed in the comfort of your own home and have beautiful and timeless images of this special moment in life.

When this client contacted me about a session, I was thrilled to work with her again. I first met her a few years ago when she and her family hired me to photograph her brother’s surprise proposal. When I spoke to her about her newborn session, she said that it was really important that she include her nine year old yellow lab, so we scheduled her newborn photos in her lovely home.

What I love the most about in home sessions is that it allows for authenticity in your images and in between moments. For example, their beautiful dog kept photo bombing our poses and it was both hilarious and adorable. I love the captures in which the pup is sneaking up into the images. I know from first hand experience just how important these images will be to my clients one day.

Their baby girl was an absolute delight to photograph. She slept peacefully throughout most of the session and we were able to get a wide variety of images of her, both posed and with the family. My favorite image from the session is one that my client requested. She received an abundance of hand made crocheted blankets at her baby shower and was overwhelmed by the care and thoughtfulness that people put into those gifts for her. She wanted to show her family how much she appreciated the gifts and asked if we could somehow use all of the blankets to capture an image of the baby. The blankets just so happened to be coordinated and in a beautiful palette of peaches, pinks, whites and greys and they photographed beautifully. Although I come to the session with an array of outfits, swaddles and props, I always love when clients wish to include personal items. It makes their session that much more meaningful.
