Sweet 16 Beach Session | Long Beach Teen Portrait Photographer

Prior to opening my business, I was a high school English Teacher for 15 years. Although I absolutely love my new career path, there are many times that I miss my former profession. I taught eleventh grade English for most of my years, which was my favorite grade to teach. This was partially because of the core literature, but mostly because the students at that grade level were so much fun. So, whenever I get to photograph a teen for a sweet 16, senior photos or graduation, I feel as though I am back to my roots.

A sweet 16 is such a special milestone for a young lady. It is also a great opportunity for you to capture updated portraits of your daughter. Your daughter is on the cusp of adulthood and it is important to capture images that document the all of the whimsy and light heartedness of this stage. Before you know it, she will be off to college. It is also a great opportunity for your daughter to dress up, have some fun, and enjoy the limelight for an hour or so. I mean, who doesn’t want to feel special?

This recent client is not only breathtakingly stunning, but she is an absolute sweetheart as well. She was a complete natural in front of the camera. It was so nice to work with her and her family. She selected two dresses in beautiful soft colors, which is perfect for beach sessions. I do love rich colors, but I find for beach photos, softer hues work best. Her neutral pink dress was beautiful against the dune grass and her white embroidered dress had the perfect amount of texture for photos. I can’t stress this enough….your wardrobe is so important and will impact the overall look of your photos, which is why I send over a wardrobe guide, have a client closet with dresses on loan and provide styling assistance.

We had the perfect weather for this young lady’s session and the light was soft and beautiful. Although it got a little cloudy for a portion of the session, the sun forced its way out at the end of the session and we were able to capture some gorgeous sunset shots.

I just love her collection of images…they combine youthful whimsy, high fashion, and a little bit of drama, all of which encapsulate those teen years. Her are a few of my favorites.
