Newborn Photos in the Comfort of Your Home | Amityville Baby Photographer

I had a jam packed Fall season with holiday sessions, family sessions and newborn sessions. It is hard to believe that it is December and we are approaching the end of 2021. The new year is a time for reflection and changes and, thus, I have decided to make a few minor changes to my business model. The first of which is with my newborn segment of my business. As of January 1st, I will no longer be offering studio newborn sessions and will focus only on in home sessions.

This decision was based on a few factors. The first of which is because my goal is to always keep things as simple as possible for new moms. I want the entire experience to be seamless and stress free for my clients and the in home session accomplishes just that. This session takes place in the comfort of your own home and allows my clients to feel at ease and this helps me to capture the most authentic and natural photos possible, which has always been my approach to photography. With this type of session, there is no need to travel anywhere, pack snacks, toys or nappies etc. I also like that we can incorporate elements of your daily life into the session such as the newly decorated nursery, the bed in which the family sleeps or playtime with your toddlers and I like to make use of the home decor that shows the families unique style and personality.

I know some clients fear that they don’t have enough space or light in their homes for a session, but in all reality, I don’t need a lot of space. Prior to your session, I ask for photos of your house that will allow me the opportunity to pre plan your session and make use of the areas in your home that have the most available light. I bring along a prop of your choice for polished studio like portraits and I also bring all of the props, swaddles and outfits to use for the session. I even have beautiful white bedding that I can bring along if needed.

With this type of session, I try to work around the baby’s schedule and if there are other children, their schedule as well. When you have other children, photographing in the home is paramount to the success of your session. It allows me the opportunity to give them tons of breaks for playtime, naps or even a snack, which in turn helps me to capture the sibling photos you were hoping for. I love that during these breaks, I am also able to capture those in between moments that I am not able to capture in a studio setting. Those images often become my clients’ favorites from the session because they capture the authenticity of life with children.

What is great about this type of session is that the baby can be awake for the entire session, which also alleviates a lot of the stress associated with a newborn session. This allows me to capture images of each and every family member interacting with the baby. I make sure I take plenty of images of mom with the baby too. Although the bulk of the galleries I deliver are of the family with the baby, I also feel that it is important to include a few polished portraits for use on baby announcements and to hang on the walls of the home. However, the images that will mean the most to you years down the road, are the ones in which you are all interacting with the baby.

I am absolutely in love with the captures from this recent in home newborn session. Not only because this family is gorgeous, but they were super fun to work with as well. Here are some of my favorites from their session.
