Summer is perhaps my busiest time as a photographer. This is because my beach sunset family photo sessions are widely popular with my clients. This session is a fan favorite and my clients start booking their spots in early March. My sunset spots book up before Summer gets into full swing. Most people who book me will choose the beach as a location, but there are other locations that work well too. I also have locations that can work for early morning sessions.

Reasons why I love the Summer for family photos

1) Summer is fleeting. There is just something about Summer that is so special here on Long Island. Perhaps it is because it is such a short lived season or because Summer is widely associated with quality time with family and loved ones.

2) Barefoot photos. I love the look of bare feet for photos. Not only is it one less thing to plan for in your wardrobe, but it provides such an earthy and natural look to photos.

3). Wardrobe options. I am a bohemian girl at heart. I love flowing dresses and linen shirts. These garments allow for movement in images and movement adds emotion. Couple that with the wind from the beach and your have a gallery of hghly emotive images. Plus, the soft muted colors are beautiful this time of year.

4)Beach Sunsets It gets cold here on Long Island shortly after Summer ends. In fact, I only schedule beach sessions during the Summer months. I start Memorial week and end mid to late September. So for those of you who want your family photos scheduled at the beach, Summer is your best option.

5)Warm weather I legit hate the cold. In fact, anything under 75 is considered cold to me. This is why I love the Summer months for family photos. Plus, warm weather means that you do not require multiple layers for clothing. It makes it easier to style your family.

Location Options for Summer family photo sessions

You are not limited to the beach for a family photo session in the Summer. Parks, preserves, fairs, farms, gardens or even your own backyard can be an option. Choose a fun activity that you like to do as a family and we can schedule your portrait session around that activity. Do you like to go for ice cream? Let’s hit up a cool ice cream spot for pics. Do you spend time in your backyard pool? A sunset pool session with brightly colored floats and drinks would make for awesome family photos. Maybe your family likes to go picking berries, we can go to a local far or farm stand for photos. The possibilities are endless and we are not limited to sunset for some of them.

What time are Summer family photo sessions scheduled?

Summer family sessions are scheduled 45-90 minutes prior to sunset, depending on the location. Morning sessions are scheduled between 9 and 10 am, depending on location. Family sessions are geared towards capturing natural and relaxed images of you and your family. So, instead of asking your children to sit still and pose for the camera, you will be playing with your children, hugging and cuddling your children. I will capture all of these sweet moments for you and your family.
